Videoguys is one of Australia's go-to retailers for video, camera, sound, studio and lighting gear, serving content creators, filmmakers and podcasters nationwide. Their catalogue runs deep and technical: mirrorless and cinema cameras, lenses, microphones, audio interfaces, lighting rigs, tripods, and the accessories that tie a production together.

The Challenge
That depth is exactly what serious buyers want, but it creates a real barrier at the point of purchase. Choosing between two similar camera bodies, checking whether a lens mount is compatible with a body, or working out which lighting kit suits a home studio versus a full production setup requires a level of product expertise that a listing page alone can't provide.
Customers who can't get a question answered quickly tend to do one of two things:
- Abandon the purchase, or
- Take their research, and their money, elsewhere.
Videoguys' sales team couldn't be everywhere at once, and their customers weren't shopping to a 9-to-5 schedule. Every hour without a knowledgeable person online was an hour of lost opportunity.
The Solution
They deployed an AI Sales & Support Agent on their Videoguys' website, trained across their full product catalogue so it could answer the kind of detailed, technical questions a specialist retailer's customers actually ask: spec comparisons, compatibility checks, and gear recommendations based on what someone is trying to shoot etc.
Rather than behave as a basic FAQ bot, the agent was built to act like an experienced staff member on the shop floor, guiding visitors toward the right product for their needs, any time of day.
In the below example, a customer is looking for a camera to create travel content for YouTube. Rather than simply recommending a product, the AI asks the right questions, considers the customer's budget, and presents two tailored options.
It also recommends compatible accessories, including spare batteries and SD cards, ensuring the customer has everything they need to get started.
When the customer asks what is included in the "Creator Bundle" for Option A, the AI provides a clear breakdown of the bundle's contents, helping the customer make an informed decision without needing to leave the conversation.
Once the customer is ready to buy, the AI seamlessly adds the selected camera and recommended accessories to the shopping cart, creating a smooth path from product discovery to purchase.
The Results
Over the twelve months from July 2025 to July 2026 they achieved an assisted conversion rate (ACR) of 32.41%. Put simply, close to one in every three conversations ended in a sale.
That converted business also punched well above its weight.
AI-assisted orders had an average order value that came in 113% higher than average. The agent wasn't just closing sales, it was closing bigger ones, regularly steering customers toward the right combination of camera body, lens, audio gear and accessories rather than a single item.
The Insight
Videoguys sells products that aren't always easy to choose. Customers need to know whether things are compatible, what they actually need for their setup, and which option makes sense for how they're going to use it.
That's where the value of the AI assistant goes beyond answering questions.
It helps customers make the decision while keeping them in control.
A camera recommendation can lead to the right lens, spare battery, SD card or other accessories. Instead of leaving customers to work all of that out themselves, the conversation brings those decisions together in one place.
The result was not just more sales. AI-assisted customers spent 113% more per order than the average customer.
For retailers with complex products, that's the bigger opportunity: when you make a difficult purchase easier, you can increase both conversion and basket size while keeping customers happy.
